J.L. Brady Company Helps Niabi Zoo Improve Water Quality
Project Overview:
From the adorable giraffes to the ferocious lions to the families that visit, everyone can thank J.L. Brady Company, a Local Union 25 contractor, for cleaner, safer drinking water throughout the entire Niabi Zoo.
“The tanks the zoo was using to house water — for human and animal consumption — were beginning to rust. Mineral deposits were building up within the tanks, creating very poor quality drinking water,” said Brandon Bohnert of J.L. Brady Company. “We went in and replaced those tanks with modern, pressurized water tanks containing a special lining that will prevent rust in the future. The new tanks, which were made in the U.S.A., also include chlorinators to keep the water safe for drinking and remove as much bacteria as possible.”
Bohnert says J.L. Brady Company was brought on to the project by Estes Construction, the project manager.
“A while back, the zoo put the project out for public bid, but they were unsuccessful because of the scope of the project. That’s why they hired on Estes Construction and we became involved,” Bohnert said.
The entire project, which included replacing two water tanks — a 1,000-gallon tank that serves the onsite animal hospital, and a 2,000-gallon tank that serves the remainder of the zoo, including all drinking fountains, restrooms and animal enclosures — took approximately two weeks for workers to complete.
